Imagine this...
Max Verstappen or Danica Patrick or Lewis Hamilton are 50 laps away from winning their biggest race and claiming the title! The tires on their high performance race car are wearing thin and they are almost out of gas. The pit crew leader radios them to pit next lap to get fresh tires and fuel to make it to the end of the race. And their response is, "I can't pit! I'm too busy racing!"
It doesn't make ANY SENSE at all!! It's actually ridiculous.
And yet this is exactly what you do when you leave self-care out of your daily routine. You are telling yourself that you are not important enough to look after, strengthen & re-energize. Not important enough to restore. Not important enough to be near the top of your game. To present the best of yourself to others.
It just doesn't make sense.
You get one body. One life. One race car in this metaphor.
Do you think that "one day" you'll get to self-care? Or is it just not a priority?
Someone brilliant once said, "If you don't make time for your wellness, you'll be forced to make time for your illness."
The choice is yours.
If you are committed to leveling up your wellness, which area would give you the most impact? Is it exercise or walking outside? Or mood / emotional quality? Or a full sleep every night? Or learning how to relax and experience less stress? Or gratitude & appreciation for what you've already created for yourself?
I firmly believe that everyone knows, deep down, what is best for themselves. So I ask you to be honest with yourself and answer the question, "What one thing could I improve starting now that would give me the most impact to my wellness?"
With that answer, craft one simple strategy that you could start today or this week that you'll commit to making a habit each and every day or week.
And remember James Clear's best tips from his book 'Atomic Habits' - to keep a habit going: set a reminder, make it easy to start it each time (eg. shoes at the door), and never miss twice! Lastly, appreciate yourself immediately after every time you complete it. As I tell my clients: "Celebrate to Integrate!"
If you're willing to practice an elevated level of self-care moving forward, let me know! I'd love to hear how you are going to up your game. And besides, sharing it with someone like me will boost your commitment level!! Let's get 'er done!
