What do you want? The key question to living your best life!
Imagine having the greatest ambitions for your life boiled down to 3 things. Not that you couldn’t have other interests and things you spend time on…but your top 3 were tattooed on your forearm.
Simply 3 big things that function as your GPS for your daily, weekly, monthly schedule.
For example: I want my sons and relationship to thrive; I want a growing business focused on helping others that allows me to have financial freedom and mostly do what I want with the people I choose to; and I want to feel proud of my own health and fitness.
90% of my focus and time is spent here.
Doesn’t sound so hard to be able to come up with three, does it?
So, what are your three?
Once you name them, how does it feel to bring in that level of clarity for your life?
Move Away, or Move Toward?
It’s been said (by reliable experts like Tony Robbins) that over 90% of people make decisions based on pain or fear, versus desires & wants.
It is a reminder about how powerful the dark side of the force is. Research has shown that negative emotions are three times more potent than positive emotions.
So the trick is to remove the pain and fear from the decision making process to get your best internal environment for your decision-making.
How to remove the resistance?
A couple of smart techniques to practice with:
1. Remove the constraint. Often, the constraint is money fears. So in this case, envision that someone just dropped a gift of $1M at your door in appreciation for how you had helped them in some way. Your bank account is full. You have ZERO money concerns. Let that resistance wash away. NOW, while inhabiting that feeling of financial freedom, make your decision from that place. Then own it.
If the constraint is fear of failure, imagine that both options in a choice lead you to your best outcome and that you couldn’t possibly fail - and inhabit that feeling.
If the constraint is fear of rejection (or what others will think/say), imagine that whatever choice you decide, you’ll increasingly be surrounded by people who support you fully.
You get the idea…
2. Envision we’re having a coffee meeting 25 years from now. You are semi-retired, choosing to volunteer or do projects that light you up, and we are meeting for a cuppa. Then I happen to recall this decision you made in January 2025 and bring it up and ask you how proud you are of how you made that decision. What would you like to be able to say to me? Make the decision this way and commit to it.
These are two strong and effective ways to remove fear and overthinking from decision making.
Then, you have to own your decision and commit to it. This takes commitment and practice strengthening the muscle. It’s likely not going to help much for those who allow themselves to keep waffling.
So how do you want to play this ‘life design’ game now moving forward? The same old 80% of the time distracted, fear-driven way? Or the way that leads you to less stress, more ease, more fulfillment, and better results?
