Finding the Fire for the Game You’re Playing

You don’t have to love hockey to appreciate what just happened this week.
The Florida Panthers win the Cup—going away—with momentum building each round, while a genuinely great Oilers team collapses under the pressure.
The skill. The teamwork. The sheer, overpowering will. The willingness to scratch and claw with what felt like endless commitment. Snuffing out the other team’s fire.
Mark Messier once said that winning the Cup means stealing your opponent’s will over a 7-game series. Then doing that 4 rounds in a row over 60 days. That’s warrior speak for outlast and dominate the opponent's heart and courage. That's deep.
While many of us don’t want to run a business with that same aggressive edge, the warrior in us—if you have that trait—respects it.
Respect for the Commitment
In business done well, that commitment shows up differently.
It's the leader committing to lead with heart. It's listening with focus. It's a willingness to grow, to learn new ways. Vision. Execution. Being messy sometimes and not overthinking it.
It’s servant leadership. Sales from service. A coach-approach to managing.
It's learning how to boost your resilience when willpower starts to fade.
It's learning to lean into energizing relationships, intentional gratitude, and celebrating the small wins on the daily.
It’s not just doing the self-leadership work…It’s finding a way to actually enjoy it.
Because let’s face it - you always find ways to do more of the things you enjoy.
If you think each player on that Cup-winning team wasn’t loving going to battle, you’re kidding yourself. They love to compete. Even when it cuts deep to lose it all at the end.
So how do you find the love for the game you’re playing? How do you learn to enjoy the grind more than you have been?
If you’re unsure—if you’re feeling stuck—maybe we should talk.
Sometimes a single conversation provides the unlock you’ve been searching for.
