If You Want to Experience What “Betterment” Feels Like, You Need to Read and Digest This...

There’s a saying in the coaching industry called “sacred moments”: these are deeply impactful instances of truth that are unleashed when intuition meets the conversation at hand.

It’s a statement so resonant that any resistance or doubt vanishes and the truth is internalized instantly.

The individual being coached feels a deep ‘aha moment’ that is so strong that it is integrated deeply and quickly.   And the coach feels it too.   The energy is palpable.

I’m certain have had such moments yourself.   Maybe it wasn’t necessarily in a coaching conversation, but perhaps in a thoughtful conversation with someone you look up to or admire.   Someone intelligent who shared an insight.   Something that grabbed your attention and guts so strongly that it wouldn’t let go.

I’ve learned that we basically have two beings inside of each one of us.   Our human/ego based “thinking” side.    And our spiritual essence based “feeling” side.   One is connected deeply to source, or infinite wisdom if you prefer.   And the other is for computing and sorting, as well as emotional regulation, creativity, memory, learning, social interaction, and even shaping our perception of reality.

Our spirit and our mind.

Your deepest, innermost wisdom is always aligned and feels true.   It is purpose and value driven.   Which is why making decisions and taking actions that are in the direction of your purpose and values always feels so light and satisfying.   Easy.  Resistance-free.

I’m not a high enough spiritual being to say whether your spirit is always ‘right’.   But I think it is.

More or Less

A open mind and growth mindset is required for sacred moments to appear with more consistency.   For those who integrate and embody a daily growth mindset, the following changes begin to show up more consistently:

  • Less focused on self; More focus on helping others

  • Less need to continually seek more ‘things’; More need to gain experiences & skills

  • Less need for praise; More desire to demonstrate humility and quiet confidence

  • Less need to ‘be right’ in conversation; More desire to hear others’ opinions (even if they don’t agree with them!) and play with ideas

  • Less hustling for & chasing self-worth; More ease and enjoyment of the daily grind

  • Less need for validation and approval; More self-approval and peace

  • Less comparison; More appreciation

  • Less doubt; More confidence

  • Less anger; More joy

  • Less fear; More love

I used to always need to ‘be right’ in conversations.   Thinking I had the right answers.   I needed to be right to stroke my ego and self-worth.   I was chasing worthiness.

Now I can see when others have this need to hustle for worthiness.  If it’s a friend, I listen.  If it’s a client, I get to help.   If it’s anyone else, I’m tuning out or walking away.

Bringing It Home

I will never get tired of having sacred moments with my clients.   As a matter of fact, it’s one of my underlying goals to keep increasing the rate and ease with which they occur.

For this to happen, my job is easy.   Keep improving my listening, knowledge, and standards.   That is fun for me!  It’s aligned with my purpose and values.

For you to have more sacred moments of your own, or to experience the ‘more of, less of’ above, your job is the same as mine.   Keep improving your listening, knowledge, and standards.   In the direction you feel compelled to.   Customized for you!

Learn something new everyday that you integrate in some way.   Bite-sized.

And make it a daily habit.  Same time in your day, every day.   In your calendar.  I know everything I need to know about your standards and priorities by looking at your calendar.

As James Clear says in his popular book, Atom Habits, 1% better every day means nearly 38x better in a year!

We are all just hear to learn and grow.

"You should be far more concerned with your current trajectory than with your current results."  -- James Clear
